Compose an Occupation
Compose the Occupation is a sound performance using photo-sensitive instruments controlled by light pendulums. The work mixes government propaganda songs with revolutionary slogans from the streets, allowing the artist to manipulate how these opposing sonic forces intertwine through light and movement.
Compose the Occupation is a performative installation that merges light, sound, and political tension through a custom-built system of photo-sensitive instruments. The work juxtaposes two contrasting audio tracks—one featuring government propaganda songs, the other composed of revolutionary slogans recorded from street protests. These sound sources are modulated and brought into conflict by swinging LED pendulums, each moving at a different rhythm and pace, evoking the dynamic interaction between state power and popular resistance.
By manually manipulating the pendulums, the artist composes a shifting soundscape in real time, where opposing forces are entangled, disrupted, and reconfigured through the interplay of light, motion, and algorithmic control.
