Forkonomy()

Co-Created with artist Winnie Soon

Contract workshop, performance, bash code, contract, NFTs

In response to this history of appropriation, Forkonomy() is an alternative council that queers our understanding of the commons by asking: “How can one buy or own a single milliliter of the South China Sea?” The project brought together diverse participants—including policymakers, scholars, marine conservationists, cultural workers, artists, and Indigenous activists—to critically examine the ownership of that one milliliter through discussions, auctions, contract deploying, and performance and code-based certifications.

Positive Coin

digital currency

“Positive” refers to HIV positive, and how HIV-positive people can bring positive meaning to their stigmatized disease. After consulting doctors, psychiatrists, and AIDS activists, our team designed a currency with bionic features inspired by HIV. Addressing Susan Sontag's observation of using military vocabularies for diseases, Positive Coin draws parallel analogies between the circulation of disease and trading. By combining currency and disease, we challenge preconceptions about values.
